8x8 Birch Bark & Birds
Tile in 2-inch Oak Park Frame - Oak
Tile in 2-inch Oak Park Frame - Ebony
Tile in 3-inch Beveled Legacy Frame

8x8 Birch Bark & Birds

Originally painted in 2005, Birch Bark & Birds shows three nuthatches playing amongst birch trees, a common setting for many of Charley Harper’s pieces.  The nuthatches provide a touch of color and energy to the forest scene while the birch trees display the simple, geometric beauty that Harper found in all aspects of nature.  This 8x8 tile’s playful scene and intricate design make this a must have for all Motawi fans.

  • Mid-century modern meets Motawi mastery in these tiles based on the work of celebrated wildlife artist Charley Harper (1922-2007), a self-described "minimal realist."
  • Actual tile size: 7-13/16" square
  • Tiles are 5/8" thick and have a notch at the back for hanging.

Motawi polychrome tiles are striking individual art pieces as much as functional tile installation accents. We’re told that our tiles will give you serious cred in gift-giving circles. And each one is made by hand and with heart in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

We embrace variation and handmade beauty. The bold heft of each Motawi tile reveals serious craftsmanship. And our time-honored hand-glazing methods produce a nuanced range of color with depth and translucence.

Our tile frames are made by Dard Hunter Studios, founded by early Roycrofter Dard Hunter and run by his grandson, Dard Hunter III.

The 3-inch oak Legacy beveled frame is available in Craftsman Oak finish only and is 13-1/2" x 13-1/2".

The 2-inch Oak Park flat frame is also made of oak and comes in Craftsman Oak or Ebony finish. Its finished size is 11-1/2" x 11-1/2".

Note: Legacy frames are available with dividers for framing multiple pieces. Oak Park frames are available with multiple openings by special order.
