Winter Glaze-A-Tile Workshops

Update: February 10 Classes WILL be held as scheduled

"Fun and interesting. Showed how much work goes into each tile." - November workshop attendee

Give the gift of creativity this holiday season!

Want to give the perfect gift for the holidays? Wrap up some creativity for the Motawi fan in your life by giving admission to one of our winter Glaze-A-Tile Workshop sessions! Motawi is known for beautiful, colorful, hand-glazed artisan tile. This process is done using a bulb syringe fit with a special metal tip. Motawi has eight full-time bulb glazers who carefully glaze tile each day in a zen-like setting. Now it's your turn!

When Are the Workshops?

Workshops will be held January 13, February 10 (perfect gift for your Valentine) and March 10. Two sessions will offered on each of those days. The morning session is from 10am-noon and the afternoon session will be from 2-4pm.

What Will I Get to Do?

Workshop participants will receive a quick behind-the-scenes tour of the Tileworks and detailed instruction of the bulb-glazing process. We will set you up with a piece of bisque (un-glazed tile), bulbs full of our rich glaze colors, and a suggested glazing guide. Use the colors in our suggested way, or come up with your own plan and glaze away!

When Do I Get My Finished Tile?

After glazing, your tile will be fired in the kiln and your masterpiece will be available for pick-up. We will e-mail you when it is ready.

What If My Tile Didn't Come Out Perfect?

It probably won't. It takes our glazers six months of on-the-job practice to really get the technique down, and even then, some tiles come out of the kiln not-just-right. The clay we use for our tiles sometimes contains traces of contaminants that may or may not show in the finished tile. It's ok, it's ceramics and it's part of the charm and the appeal of a handmade piece of art. Therefore, no refunds will be issued for imperfect tiles.

What if I Came to the Workshop from out of town?

No worries! We have a shipping department here at Motawi. If you would like your finished tile shipped, we will process payment for shipping the day of the workshop and ship it out to you the day it is ready!

What Should I Wear?

Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little messy. We will provide aprons, tools, supplies and a bottle of water for each participant. No outside food or beverage is allowed. This is highly detailed work, if you need reading glasses, you'll want to have them!

Are the Workshops Kid Friendly?

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and sorry, no children under 12.
