Motawi's Pine Landscape
series is an important part of the company's history as it was the first time Motawi attempted a multi-colored tile.
The original artwork was inspired by The Pines
, a series of tiles designed by Addison LeBouteillier and produced by Grueby Faience of Boston near the turn of the last century. The series evolved over the years to include many sizes, colors, and even murals. When used in an installation, we feel there's no better way to bring the outdoors inside. Sit back, relax and take a journey through the Pines with us as we shine our spotlight on Pine Landscape
Pines in the Living Room
We begin in the living room with a hearth that is as warm as the flames inside the firebox. Here, two 8x8 Pine Landscape
tiles are placed next to one another to create a mountain scene. Surrounded by Motawi's signature glaze Lee Green
and sprinkled with decorative accent tiles, this fireplace owns the room.
This fireplace uses 8x8 Pine Landscape
tiles to create a rolling hillside, surrounded by tiles in mostly Lee Green
Pines in the Kitchen
A rolling landscape of Pine Landscapes
enhances this backsplash, flanked by accent field tiles in - you guessed it - Motawi's Lee Green.
This is obviously the most popular glaze color selected to be featured with our Pine series!
Yet another example of how just a few Pine Landscape
art tiles can bring an outdoors-loving homeowner's kitchen to life.
The versatile Pine Landscape design can also be represented on a much larger scale: the mural. Motawi's Pine Landscape mural was first produced in 1997 for the Washington Square Public Library in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It has proven so popular that it has become part of Motawi's regular made-to-order production line.
We custom colored a mural for a client recently and loved it so much, we named the colorway Spring and are adding it to our line. The murals, as well as art tiles, are popular focal points for installations.
Motawi's glossy Celadon glaze adds a bright tone to this interpretation of our Pine Landscape mural, featured above the stove.
This homeowner created a window with a great view over the (dreamy) farm sink by using the Pine mural. The 'window' is surrounded by tiles draped in Motawi's Sepia glaze
. We think the cabinet color ties everything in perfectly.

The drawing above looks nice on paper...
But even better in person.
The next best thing to an outdoor shower is this fabulous installation. Would you ever get out? We don't think we could.
Whether in a mural, assembled in a fireplace, as a single tile on a wall or framed in a group, this versatile design has stood the test of time at Motawi, and, the fun is just getting started...
In the fall of 2016, Motawi introduced its Pine Landscape series in a new colorway. We hope you "fall" in love with this as much as we have.
