Frank
Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) amazed the world with his visionary architectural
designs. Early on, he defined the principles of what he called "organic
architecture." Appropriate to time, place and man, an organic architecture
“proceeds, persists, creates according to the nature of man
and his circumstances as they both change.”
Believing the architect should create total environments, Mr. Wright’s designs included art glass windows, furniture and lighting. Our tiles are adapted from a variety of decorative designs that Mr. Wright produced for his clients. For more information about the origin for each of our tile designs, click on the links at right. Textile Block Tile
In
1923, Frank Lloyd Wright pioneered a unique method of building
construction— the
Textile Block System—in which concrete blocks were molded in unique
designs, then joined with steel reinforcing rods to form
elegant interior and exterior walls. Over the course of his
career, Wright constructed several distinctive homes using
this system. Motawi Tileworks has adapted these timeless
designs into relief tile that can be used in fireplace or
other installations. For
details and photos of Textile Block tile installations, see
our companion website.
